Bariatric surgery improves renal transplantation and is safe in renal failure: A systematic review and meta-analysis

In this study, the authors aimed to evaluate the strength of evidence for both the efficacy and safety of Bariatric surgery in patients with end stage renal disease or kidney transplantation.

Evidence for Occult Fibrin Burden Associated With Adverse Transplant Outcomes and Cholangiopathy

Scientists looked at how to improve liver transplants. Sometimes, after people get a new liver, there can be problems with bile (a liquid made by the liver). These scientists wanted to find out if there is something called fibrin that causes the problems. They studied 163 livers and found out that fibrin can cause problems. They also tried using a medicine called alteplase to get rid of the fibrin and it seemed to work well in most cases. This could help people who need liver transplants feel better faster.

Outcomes of Declined Deceased Donor Kidney Offers that are Subsequently Implanted

Sometimes donated a kidney is declined for one person but then used for someone else instead. This study looked at how well these kidneys worked for the people who got them, compared to people who were still waiting for a kidney. The study found that the kidneys that were initially declined still worked well for people who eventually got them. The study suggests that even kidneys that were considered riskier could still be used for some patients who really need them.

Normothermic machine perfusion versus static cold storage in donation after circulatory death kidney transplantation: a randomized controlled trial

Scientists have been trying to find ways to keep kidneys donated by deceased donors in better condition prior to transplant. One way they tried involved using a machine to keep the donated kidney warm and healthy until the time of the transplant. They tested this method against another method where the kidney is kept in cold storage. They found that the warm machine method didn’t work any better than the cold storage method, but they did find that using the warm machine method was safe.
