£4.33m boost for kidney transplant research (08/23)

Applications are now open for £4.33m worth of research funding to drive innovation and build expertise and capacity in kidney transplant science. Launched by Kidney Research UK in collaboration with the Stoneygate Trust, the Professor Michael Nicholson Awards are named after the Cambridge University professor who has made great strides in transplant and perfusion technology. The funding will be available in grant rounds spanning three years to support innovation and transform treatments by making more healthy donor organs available for transplant and so transplanted kidneys last longer. As well as attracting experienced surgeons, the awards have been designed to enable early career researchers to establish themselves in the research community and allow their development into being leaders in transplantation. All submissions will be subject to peer review involving members of the Kidney Research UK Research Grants Committee and Lay Advisory Group and both scientific and lay external reviewers.  Applications for this first year of funding close at 5pm on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
