DeFat: How removing fat from donor livers can aid transplantation (Organ Donation Week, 09/23)

This study examines defatting donor transplant livers during the process of normothermic perfusion, which preserves the organ before transplantation, and is being led by Dr Hussain Abbas, Clinical Research Fellow at Oxford University. This study’s long term goal is to create more suitable livers for transplantation. Liver disease is the third leading cause of premature death in the UK. Transplantation is the only successful treatment for end-stage liver disease but limited by a shortage of suitable donor organs. To read more, see here
